Why was Vayarin Discontinued?

I learned that Vayarin was discontinued in the US when one of my patients contacted me about the kosher status of Vayarin and whether it was available in Israel.

So why was Vayarin discontinued?

According to the manufacturer’s website, Vayarin was manufactured by VAYA, and when the company was sold, they made a strategic decision to be a supplier of bulk ingredients only.

After 2018, a version of Vayarin was sold in Israel by TEVA under the name ZOOM, and we verified that the ingredients were the same as in Vayarin.

Since the discontinuation of ZOOM by Teva, we have started marketing our own Vayarin alternative, sold under the name Zoomind.

Regarding the kosher status – Zoom and Vayarin both contained phosphatidylserine, which may be sourced from shellfish.  Rabbi Zaritzki in Israel allows for the medical use of products containing phosphatidylserine like Zoomind, Vayarin and ZOOM.

Zoomind is sold as a dietary supplement and is available at select pharmacies and it can now be purchased here on Reekooz.

Ingredients in Zoomind include:
L-Tyrosine 250 mg
Phosphatidylserine 50% 150 mg
Omega-3 Fatty Acids 5 mg

Microcrystalline Cellulose, Gelatin, and Silicon Dioxide.
Contains Fish and Soy.

Zoomind capsules do not contain sugar, lactose, yeast or gluten.

    1. Since Zoom contains shellfish we suggest that people allergic to shellfish avoid it.
