CHADD – Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity

CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder [ADHD]) is a not-for-profit organization that provides education, advocacy, and support for individuals with ADHD and their families.

CHADD was founded in 1987 at a time when many clinicians and educators knew little about ADHD and mistakenly labeled people with ADHD as having behavioral problems, being unmotivated, or, worst of all, being of lower intelligence.

At that time, very few places could provide support or information. Thanks in part to the continued work of CHADD, under the Americans with Disabilities Act, children today with ADHD are eligible for special education services within the regular classroom when needed, and adults may be eligible for accommodations in the workplace.

CHADD runs the National Resource Center on ADHD (NRC). This provides science-based information on ADHD for the parents or caregivers of children and teens with ADHD, for adults with ADHD, and for health care and education professionals who work with them.  The Federal government partially funds it to provide information about the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and health and well-being issues for people with ADHD and their families.
