The prefrontal cortex is a part of the brain crucial for executive functions, such as planning, decision-making, problem-solving, self-control, and moderating social behavior. It is often implicated in the disorder in individuals with ADHD coming from delays in prefrontal cortex development during formative years or differences in activation and connectivity, which can contribute to symptoms of impulsivity, hyperactivity, and inattention.
