Lupus, also called systemic lupus erythematosus, is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks healthy tissues by mistake. This can affect various parts of the body. When lupus affects the skin, it can damage the hair follicles on the scalp, leading to hair loss. This hair thinning might happen very slowly.
