Hair Root and Shaft

Hair consists of two main parts: the hair shaft and the hair root. The shaft is the part that can be seen above the skin's surface. Below the surface lies the hair root, which goes deeper into the skin. This root is encased in the hair follicle, a protective layer made up of skin and connective tissue.
