Hycosan (also marketed as Miebo or EvoTears – generic name: perfluorohexyloctane) is a liquid that can prevent any excessive evaporation of tears. Dry eyes can cause red, teary, and sore eyes, and also creates a feeling of grittiness when blinking, like a foreign body in the eyes.
Hycosan, Miebo and EvoTears are the same medication, containing perfluorohexyloctane. They effectively relieve the discomfort of dry eyes.
The symptoms of dry eye can worsen later in the day and are also more frequent in extremely dry environments or air-conditioned environments. Rapid evaporation of the lipid content of tear drops prevents their functions to act as a protective covering over the highly sensitive outer layers of the cornea.
EvoTears is an over-the-counter (OTC) product and does not require a doctor’s prescription outside the USA and Canada. Doctors can also prescribe the product as Miebo or Hycosan.
